The Oromo people celebrate Irreecha to express gratitude to Waaqa (their God) for the blessings and mercies received throughout the previous year. The festival is held at the beginning of Birraa (spring), the new season that follows the dark and rainy winter. Irreecha is attended by hundreds of thousands of people in Shaggar city, who gather at sacred spot like Malka Ateete and Malkaa Irreecha. Wellknown Irreecha cultural festival also known as the Oromo thanks giving day celebration will take place every year on the last week of the month of September in Burayu and Sebeta subcities respectively.
